San Antonio TX Dec 23 2016 A man was fatally shot while wielding a bat against a security officer Thursday night on the Northwest Side.

San Antonio Police Department Sgt. Ethan Humble said a 32-year-old man was arguing with a female clerk over a motel key that turned into a physical fight at about 8 p.m. at the Fiesta Inn and Suites, 4934 N.W. Loop 410.

“He started kicking out the front door that, as you see, is busted,’ Humble said. “She feared for her safety and pulled out a baseball bat to defend herself with and he came back at her.”

During their struggle, the man took the bat from the clerk, police said.

That’s when a security officer walked up to the lobby and pepper sprayed the man attempting to make him drop the bat, Humble said.

The pepper spray did not work, he said.

Instead, the man began striking the security guard, Humble said.

After several strikes, the security guard pulled out his gun and fired one shot, fatally wounding the man, investigators said.
