Heartbreaking news out of Texas as police have arrested three men for allegedly beating a security officer at a gym in Mesquite after he tried to escort them out, according to news reports.

Mesquite Police charged Xzaviour Williams, 20, Darius Williams, 26 and Cameron Walton, 26 in connection with the death of Patrick "Big Pat" Prejean's death at Fitness Connection.

A GoFundMe has been set up for Pat's burial.

From all accounts, Prejean was a wonderful, giving man, a true "gentle giant." What a sad commentary on our society that these individuals felt they had to resort to violent measures for being asked to leave an establishment. As if that would have improved their status with the gym. On the contrary, now they are possibly looking at homicide charges and life in prison. Here's an idea if you have a dispute with a gym (or any other business in which you are asked to leave) -- how about take it up later with the gym's management/ownership?

There is anecdotal evidence to suggest that violence against security officers is on the rise, but two factor to keep in mind are the number of security officers across the United States is expanding, as is the types of environments they are tasked with protecting.
