In October 2002, the nation’s capital region was wrapped in fear when 13 people were shot and 10 were killed within a 23-day period. These murders began within a three-mile radius before expanding to seven counties in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. Over 1,000 law enforcement personnel were involved. Fear engulfed the area of 5 million people. Employees and customers were demanding enhanced security at places of work and shopping. How did security agencies respond? During this presentation, special attention will be given to the relationship between the police and security: How was it in 2002? How is it today? How do we continue to improve it? This presentation reviews: tactical, investigative, media, command, political, logistics and leadership.

Participants will learn leadership skills in times of crisis response and the importance of both showing an enhanced physical response and of communicating clearly with stakeholders. In addition, they will learn how to obtain necessary resources to meet the needs of a client in an emergency situation and the power of collaboration, both with law enforcement and with other private security entities.

ASIS Global Security Exchange happens Sept. 12-14 in Atlanta, Ga., with the DC Sniper session occurring Monday, Sept. 12 from 3:15 PM - 4:15 PM Eastern Time (US & Canada).
