For those of us in the security industry, it's a no-brainer that security officers would be overlooked; as The Forgotten Soldiers of the Invisible Empire, it's been that way for a long time now. Part of that attitude may stem from the belief among some that security professional are not first responders, when, in fact, they most certainly are. The International Foundation for Protection Officers (IFPO)'s Professional Protection Officer textbook is filled with references to security officers as first responders, including a citation of ASIS' Protection of assets: Applications (2011). That said, organizations like ASIS and PrivateOfficerBreakingNews have led the way in highlighting the sacrifice made by security professionals at all times, but especially during the coronavirus pandemic. And, it is refreshing to see mainstream media outlet Yahoo! giving it some coverage.   - IFPO.
